The World’s Best Specialty Hospitals 2022 is based on a global survey of medical professionals. The outcome of the recommendations is based on two sub-headings, primary recommendations and secondary recommendations. in partnership with Statista invited more than 40,000 medical experts (medical doctors, health professionals, hospital managers and directors) in more than 20 countries to an online survey. In addition, experts from all over the world had the opportunity to participate in the 2022 “World’s Best Specialty Hospitals” survey. Data was collected from June to August 2021.
Participants were asked to recommend and rank hospitals based on their experience in their primary medical field (eg, cardiology for cardiologists) and could choose an optional second specialty area. Secondary recommendations were given less weight. The questionnaire did not provide a list of hospitals, and respondents could suggest any hospital they preferred (using the autocomplete function for convenience). A statistician checked the reliability of all data to avoid self-nomination.
An initial reputation score was calculated for each hospital based on weighted recommendations for each medical field. Prequalification scores were used to create initial lists for ten areas of medicine. Hospitals specializing in multiple areas received a specific score for each area based on referrals. A hospital can be represented in more than one list. The shortlists were submitted to a global panel of experts acting in an advisory role for approval.
