We explored Normandy by car, starting from Paris, which is only two to three hours from the coast. The car allowed us to be flexible in our journey and to explore the region freely (see the Rentalcars.com website to compare and find the best price if you want to rent a car).

A visit to Normandy would not be complete without a night in an authentic French church – the 18th century Chenevière. Located in the countryside near Port-en-Bessin, a seaside town, this hotel is a five-star establishment with two restaurants and a large swimming pool. Breakfast is a mix of buffet and à la carte, and the honey, made at La Chenevière farm, is delicious. There are twenty-nine rooms, but families or larger groups (up to eight people) can book Escures, private cabins away from the main building.
We like: We were lucky enough to stay in an Executive Deluxe room. Try to book it if you can – it is the only and unique room in the castle. It is located on the top floor and offers a mix of traditional and modern interior.

Pro tip: Le Petit Jardin restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, set in a glass conservatory, is popular and popular. Write in advance.
What do you see around you? We stayed at La Chenevière to see the D-Day landings and other WWII sites, including the famous Longues-sur-Mer battery – and Bayeux, which is ten kilometers from the hotel. The city is famous for the Bayeux Tapestry, built in the 11th century to tell the story of the conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066.
You can’t go further than Château de Boucéel. It’s a National Historic Site — and a historic monument — surrounded by old trees and overlooking a pond popular with dogs and wildlife. But the castle is not only a beautiful B&B, but also the home of the noble family that owns it.
“In 1923, when he was 17 years old, Arnaud de Roquefeuil started his diary. […] Arnaud sketched his daily life and his hobbies […] He could not have imagined that in 1939 he would go to war and that it would become an important document..” – Small history meets big history
Le Normandy, Five Star Hotel In Deauville
As you explore the heirloom rooms, you may meet the Counts or Countess de Roquefeuil, who will be happy to talk about the family’s role in the World War II protests or how the house survived the French Revolution.
We love: The feeling of being in someone’s home extends to some clever ideas, such as the Honesty Bar with a selection of wines and a fridge full of small dishes (made by Michelin-starred chefs) that can be reheated. And guests, even at night.
Pro tip: To protect the historic character of the building, the owner avoided installing things like aluminum windows, and the air conditioner is portable. But you come for truth and style – enjoy!
What do you see around you? The hotel is located in the bay of Mont Saint-Michel and has a good location for exploring the famous island and its surroundings.

Hotel Barriere is a collection of five-star luxury hotels, and Hotel Barriere Le Normandy is considered one of the best options to stay in the region. It is a beach town full of amenities for tourists, including health and wellness. The interior creates a beautiful combination of the ocean and the feel of France and makes for a cozy, comfortable vacation. Le Normandy is located near the beach and offers easy access to the famous Deauville beach.
We like it: Overall we enjoyed Barrière Le Normandy, but the hotel’s beautiful beach deserves a special mention. Also, it’s only a two and a half hour drive from Paris. It can be the first stop on a trip to Normandy.
Pro tip: If you want something special, book the beautiful 58m² suite dedicated to men and women, photographed by Claude Lelouch at the hotel and awarded the Palme d’Or in 1966.
What do you see around you? Only in Deauville. It’s beach time! However, if you want to go a little further, check out perfect Honfleur or, on the other hand, the beautiful village of Beuvron-en-Auge.
Best Hotels Near The Beach In Caen, France
D’Audrieu is a historical monument located between Bayeux and Caen. As is often the case with old castles, the estate includes extensive grounds (twenty-five hectares of which include gardens and parkland). Today, after moving from a noble family home to a luxurious five-star hotel, d’Audrieu delights with its elegant style and luxurious rooms. Facilities include a spa, an outdoor pool, a fine dining restaurant (Le Séran) and an impressive wine list.
What we like: Great food – very dedicated executive chef. One night, after hiking all day, we were so tired that we couldn’t eat well. But the chef couldn’t imagine we’d go to bed hungry, so he brought a simple seafood salad.
Pro tip: For a unique stay, try a tree house – instead of booking one of the castle’s rooms or suites. Indeed, it is built of wood, but it is completely decorated with a balcony overlooking a beautiful English garden.
What do you see around you? Bayeux, or the city of Caen, has its castle and medieval abbeys, including Saint-Étienne Abbey.

La Ferme Saint Siméon is a unique 17th-century hotel said to have revolved around the Impressionist movement. Known at the time as the Auberge de la Mère Toutain, it was where emerging artists came to seek inspiration in Honfleur. Today it is a five-star hotel, perfectly positioned to overlook the banks of the Seine. And it was created to evoke the spirit of Impressionist art in design, services and fun activities (such as painting classes). The hotel has a restaurant with a menu that celebrates regional cuisine. There is also a spa center and a beautiful beach.
We love: The perfect combination of nostalgia and modern elegance, where historic Norman-style buildings are enhanced with high-quality furnishings, luxurious fabrics and modern amenities.
Tip: For a unique experience, the hotel can arrange an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage ride to the center of Honfleur.
What do you see around you? Honfleur, of course. The hotel is not located in the city center, but that’s good because it can be very crowded during the season.

Les Manoirs is an elegant boutique hotel located in a historical monument. There are a total of 27 rooms and suites spread throughout the 16th century manor house and modern duplex suites, one of which we stayed in. The hotel has a wellness center with a jacuzzi and sauna, as well as a heated outdoor pool (closed in winter).
Pro tip: Note that this is too small and too far from the hotel to have a restaurant. However, room service is maintained and meals are provided by the best local restaurants specializing in Normandy cuisine.
What do you see around you? With beaches and large beaches, Deauville is only a few minutes away. The best is still here, explore the historic villages of the Pays d’Auge with beautiful inns, Calvados distilleries and cider farms. In the south is Camembert, where the famous cheese comes from.
